The longitudinal effects of children’s temperament on maternal depression: A hierarchical linear modeling approach

Purpose: This study aimed to identify the longitudinal effects of children’s temperament on maternal depression.Methods: Data from a cohort Panel Study Korean Children (PSKC) 2010 2012 were analyzed using hierarchical linear modeling. The survey included 1,721 mother-child dyads. mothers reported their and depression. was measured by Emotionality, Activity Sociability-Temperament Survey for Children-Parental Ratings, while depression Kessler 6 Psychological Distress Scale.Results: results showed that both relatively stable when children between ages 2 4. mean scores 11.83 in 2010, 11.88 2011, 11.75 2012. There significant negative correlations ages, sociability activity subdomain ranged r=-.05 -.11 (p<.05). positive correlation emotionality (r=.35, p<.001). Children’s rament (emotionality: β=0.26, activity: β=-0.07, sociability: β=-0.03) factors depression.Conclusion: These findings indicate need early assessment intervention this will provide basic data development nursing education programs related improve health quality life young mothers.
